A Former Developer of World of Warcraft and League of Legends MMOs Embarks on a Fresh Fantasy MMORPG Project

Greg ‘Ghostcrawler’ Street is Developing a New MMORPG Under His Own Studio

Gaming industry veteran Greg ‘Ghostcrawler’ Street, known for his influential development work on World of Warcraft and League of Legends, is currently working on a new MMORPG under his own studio. Street recently unveiled Fantastic Pixel Castle, the name of his new studio, along with their upcoming game codenamed Ghost. More details about the studio and the game are expected to be revealed in a livestream on November 8th.

Introducing Ghost: A Modernised Fantasy MMORPG

Fantastic Pixel Castle describes Ghost as a “modernised fantasy MMORPG” that focuses on playing with friends and building communities. The game will feature private and public ‘shards’ where players can choose who to play with, build bases, collect resources, and affect their own shard in ways that persist between gaming sessions. Shards will also offer player vs. player (PvP) battles between individuals and guilds.

The setting of Ghost takes place in a fantasy world devastated by an apocalyptic event. Players, as the inhabitants of this world, must rebuild their civilization by traveling to different shards within the universe. The game’s story will unfold over various seasons, with player actions influencing the evolution of the game world as it progresses.

    A Different Take on Fantasy

Despite being set in a fantasy world, Ghost will avoid traditional fantasy tropes such as orcs or elves. The game will offer a variety of classes including tanks, healers, and DPS, with some unique and “weird” roles added to the mix.

A Talented Team and Partnership with NetEase

Greg Street has assembled a team of experienced developers, including former World of Warcraft and League of Legends colleagues, as well as developers with expertise in games like Guild Wars 2. The game will be published by NetEase, a company known for its previous work handling World of Warcraft in China. NetEase recently parted ways with Blizzard after a 14-year partnership.

    Early Development Stage

Ghost is still in the early stages of development, therefore, gameplay footage will not be shown in the upcoming reveal. However, Fantastic Pixel Castle plans to engage with the community and incorporate constant feedback as the game progresses.

This exciting announcement has generated anticipation among MMORPG enthusiasts, who are eager to see what Greg Street and his team at Fantastic Pixel Castle have in store for them in the world of Ghost.
