Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 5 Officially Incorporates a Niche Community Character as Canon

The Baldur’s Gate 3 Epilogue Reveals Bing Bong’s Canonization in the Game

Warning: Spoilers for the Baldur’s Gate 3 epilogue, as added in Nov. 30’s Patch 5, as well as the voice cast Dungeons & Dragons session below.

From thousands of lines of dialogue to a much better inventory system and a whole get-together post-game, Larian Studios introduced a slew of exciting updates in its absolutely massive Patch 5 on Thursday. But the most niche? Bing Bong. Bing Bong is now officially part of the game’s canon.

Bing Bong, an imp NPC introduced during the voice cast’s live-streamed Dungeons & Dragons session back in September, has become a fan-favorite despite his seemingly random appearance. Bing Bong, as portrayed by Dungeon Master Mark Hulmes, quickly became a point of contention between Lae’zel and Shadowheart and captured the hearts of the community.

Larian Studios even addressed Bing Bong’s popularity on Twitter, showing how the character had made a lasting impression.

While Bing Bong may not physically appear in the game, an observant Reddit user spotted a reference to him in Shadowheart’s dialogue during the epilogue. This mention adds to Bing Bong’s story and solidifies his place in the game’s lore.

It’s worth noting that specific circumstances need to be in place to unlock this dialogue, such as romancing Shadowheart and making certain choices. However, fans are thrilled about Bing Bong’s canonization, especially considering his untimely demise in the D&D session.

The community’s excitement showcases the attention Larian Studios pays to its players, ensuring that even the smallest details are acknowledged and incorporated into the game.

    Long live Bing Bong.
