Battlefield 2042 Recreates Cyberpunk 2077’s Epic Moment, Retaining 100,000 Players

Shockingly, Battlefield 2042 Surpasses All-Time Player Count from 2021

Saturday, October 21 2023 After a week of increased player numbers, Battlefield 2042 has finally beaten its all-time player count from 2021, at over 107,000 concurrent players.

Battlefield 2042 is having its Cyberpunk 2077 moment, as a week after the shooter’s free weekend, the game is still attracting concurrent players in the six-figure range. Thanks to improvements and new content from DICE, positive word of mouth, and an ongoing sale, Battlefield 2042 looks to be back.

Last week I reported on how a free weekend and a massive series sale saw Battlefield 2042 re-emerge from the ashes of the game’s 2021 launch. The Battlefield 2042 player count quickly soared to just over 100,000 concurrents, thanks to the free weekend on Steam. I honestly thought we’d see a colossal drop-off in the days that followed. However, the FPS game is holding strong, and I’m seriously impressed.

Battlefield 2042 hasn’t surpassed its all-time player peak of 105,397 players from two years ago, but every day since the free weekend, the shooter has comfortably maintained around 100,000 players. Despite some dips, we’re witnessing the Cyberpunk 2077 moment for the EA game.

Battlefield 2042 Steam Sale and Phenomenal Word of Mouth Lifts the Game’s Popularity

This feat is aided by the ongoing Battlefield 2042 Steam sale and positive word of mouth. However, neither of these factors diminishes the fact that since Sunday, October 15, Battlefield 2042 has seen its best player numbers in a long time.

Battlefield’s current position becomes even more impressive when considering how the free weekend coincided with Modern Warfare 3’s open-beta weekend, which would be intense competition for any multiplayer shooter.

The Phenomenon Continues: Players Stick Around and the Game Thrives

The current Battlefield numbers on both Steam Charts and SteamDB will inevitably drop, but I am astounded by how long the DICE shooter has held its ground. It is evident that players who participated in the free weekend enjoyed their experience, and the ongoing sale is encouraging both them and others to stick around for a little while longer.

Battlefield 2042’s Cyberpunk Moment: A Remarkable Turnaround

I refer to this as Battlefield 2042’s Cyberpunk moment because both games had challenging launches. We already witnessed the 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty expansion breathe new life into the CD Projekt Red game, and Battlefield 2042 is now receiving a similar treatment. Season 6 Dark Creations is already underway, introducing new maps, weapons, gadgets, and exciting battle pass items that are reinvigorating the game. Combined with the free weekend and ongoing sale, this perfect storm has captured the hearts of players.

If Battlefield isn’t quite your speed, but you still want something similar, we have compiled a list of the best multiplayer games you can play right now. Additionally, we have a collection of great free PC games that might pique your interest.
