The Trials of North American Ranked Dota 2: Collapse’s Frustrations and Quinn’s Redemption
The International 2023: A Gathering of Dota 2’s Finest
The best Dota 2 players from all around the world have converged in Seattle for The International 2023. With the competition well underway, teams are battling for coveted spots in the main event bracket. As the pros engage in tournament matches and practice sessions, they have also ventured into the realm of North American ranked matches. However, one player, Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov of Team Spirit, has already developed a deep disdain for this particular experience.
A Rocky Start for Collapse
Collapse ventured into the North American server for ranked matches on October 6, as reported by stats site Dotabuff. Unfortunately, his initial foray was met with disappointment, as he suffered three consecutive losses. While he managed to secure a victory, Collapse proceeded to face a bleak streak of five straight defeats.
The Tale of Collapse’s Struggles
In a recent interview with Escorenews on October 13, Collapse shared his frustrations with playing ranked Dota 2 matches in North America. He openly criticized the experience and empathized with players enduring this challenging environment year-round. Collapse firmly stated, “It’s impossible to play pubs in America all day long,” and declared that prolonged exposure to NA-ranked matches would inevitably lead to madness and frustration.
Quinn’s Infamous NA Experience
Prior to joining Gaimin Gladiators in Europe, Quinn Callahan, another professional Dota 2 player, played NA-ranked matches throughout the year while competing in the region. Collapse recounted Quinn’s behavior, describing him as a “madman” who would flame his teammates and opponents during ranked matches. It became evident that NA had left its mark on Quinn, leading to severe backlash from the community. In response, Quinn released a statement apologizing for his “abhorrent actions” in Dota 2 pubs, vowing to work on becoming a more well-behaved player.
The Lingering Effects of NA on Quinn
Although Quinn has made efforts to curb his toxic behavior throughout 2023, traces of his time in the North American Dota 2 scene occasionally resurface. These instances have drawn strong criticism from the community. Quinn has acknowledged his past mistakes and reassured fans that he is actively working on personal growth and becoming a more respectful player.
Managing the Frustration: Collapse’s Plan
Fortunately for Collapse, his exposure to the NA-ranked matches will be limited to the duration of The International 2023. To cope with the frustration, he has devised a strategy of restricting his ranked matches to two or three games per day, prioritizing official matches and practice sessions.
Team Spirit’s Triumph
Despite Collapse’s unpleasant experience in North American pubs, Team Spirit has excelled in the group stage of TI 2023, emerging victorious in all their matches thus far. The team is heavily favored to secure a spot in the upper bracket of the playoffs by triumphing in their upcoming qualifying best-of-three match.
