Delayed Release of Sci-Fi Shooter “Vertigo 2” on PSVR 2 Postponed to Later This Year

Vertigo 2 for PSVR 2 Delayed Until Later This Year

The highly anticipated sci-fi shooter game, Vertigo 2, which resembles the Half-Life series, was initially set to release on PSVR 2 on October 24th. However, the game’s launch on PSVR 2 has been delayed and will now arrive later this year.

Update (October 25th, 2023): Developer Zach Tsiakalis-Brown and publisher Perp Games announced that Vertigo 2 will arrive on PSVR 2 headsets sometime this year. More details regarding the specific launch date will be revealed within the next two weeks.

    The original article follows below:

Original Article (April 25th, 2023): Responding to a Twitter user, Timo Schmidt, Tsiakalis-Brown confirmed that support for PSVR 2 is still planned. He recalled a previous tweet from January where he stated his desire to port the game to PSVR in the future. The improved rendering capability of the PlayStation 5, comparable to a mid-range PC, allows for enhanced graphics and immersive experiences, surpassing those of previous PlayStation versions like PS4 and PS4 Pro.

However, developing for PSVR 2 is not a straightforward process. Tsiakalis-Brown acknowledges the challenge of adapting the game for Sony’s latest VR headset, which requires more precision compared to creating a PC VR game. Additionally, he mentions that he has never undergone the certification process to publish a game on the PlayStation Store since his previous games were solely for PC VR.

Nathan Rowe, the developer of VR art app SculptrVR, provided advice for overcoming the certification process, suggesting early communication with Sony and seeking their assistance throughout the filing process.

In order to expose the Vertigo series to a larger audience, Tsiakalis-Brown believes that releasing both Vertigo 2 and Vertigo Remastered for PSVR 2 would be a great strategy. While the exact post-launch release schedule for Vertigo 2 is yet to be published, it is clear that the first priority is the upcoming sandbox DLC, allowing users to create and share their own content based on Vertigo 2 assets and worlds.
