Highlights from EGX: Loddlenaut Mixes PowerWash Sim’s Serenity with Ocean Cleanup for a Delightfully Lo-Fi Experience

Experience the Zen-Like Charm of Loddlenaut: The Ultimate Cleaning Adventure!

When I see dirt, I know what I must do: clean. Whether it’s in my own, real-life home or in a game, I am compelled to scrub, wipe, and tidy. But nothing prepared me for the oily, purple globs of gunk in Loddlenaut’s mesmerizing Flotsam Flats region. These gunky blobs were just begging to be zapped by my little diver’s handy laser gun, and I couldn’t resist the call. With a single squeeze of the trigger, my little diver got to work, effortlessly eliminating the goo with robotic precision. In Loddlenaut, it’s all about getting close enough to the gunge, and the rest is taken care of. It may not be as complex as other clean-up games, but its unique combination of lo-fi visuals, soothing score, and satisfying controller rumble create a zen-like charm that kept me engrossed for a delightful 20 minutes at EGX Rezzed Zone.

    Getting into the Cleaning Flow

Starting the game, I needed to familiarize myself with the controls and navigate my diver through the ocean floor. The diver moved at a steady pace, and a simple button press allowed me to ascend or descend, effortlessly reaching the next patch of goo that needed attention. The only concern was the oxygen levels, indicated by a slowly diminishing meter on the diver’s jetpack. Fortunately, underwater fauna produced oxygen bubbles once cleaned, and boost rings completely replenished the tank. Oxygen management added just enough challenge without becoming a constant worry, allowing me to focus on the cleaning process.

    The Satisfying Art of Cleaning

As I cleaned, a percentage meter at the top of the screen monitored my progress, ticking toward 100% as I washed away gunk and collected debris. It was immensely satisfying watching the number steadily increase and witnessing the return of wildlife as an indicator of a job well done. One particularly intriguing creature that caught my attention was the loddle, an adorable pink blob resembling a proto axolotl. While I wasn’t allowed to clean this friendly creature with my laser gun, a radio update from my land-based mate hinted at a curious backstory, keeping me on my toes and adding an unexpected layer of mystery to the cleaning process.
