Hypergrid Business Reports OpenSim Achieves Record-High Land Area

OpenSim’s Public Grids Reach Record High with Largest Land Area Ever

The public grids in OpenSim reached a record high this month, boasting the largest land area ever recorded, equivalent to 127,958 standard regions. This increase of 2,252 regions compared to last month highlights the growing popularity and expansion of OpenSim.

In addition to the increase in land area, the total number of registered users on public OpenSim grids also saw a significant rise, with an increase of 7,440 users. Furthermore, the total number of active users on these grids rose by 666.

It is worth noting that several grids did not report their statistics for this month, including The University of St. Andrews’ School of Computer Science and Soul Grid, both of which reported impressive numbers in the previous month. Other grids that were missing stats included Etheria Grid, Youth Nation, Mathesis, WaterSplash, E Grid, Champions Gate, and the Impulse Grid.

Currently, there are 2,596 OpenSim grids being tracked, with 422 active grids and 271 grids publishing their statistics. Unfortunately, some grids do not have accessible public stats pages, so it is important to inform the OpenSim community if there is a new stats page available.

The top three grids by land area are still OSgrid, Wolf Territories Grid, and Kitely. OSgrid has the equivalent of 29,281 standard-sized regions, followed by Wolf Territories Grid with 25,440 regions, and Kitely with 18,294 regions. German World Grid has seen the most significant increase in regions, adding 637 regions in the past 30 days. Alternative Metaverse added 473 regions, Groovy Verse added 387, and OSgrid added 351.

Notably, OSgrid offers unlimited free regions for residents who run them on their home computers, making it the largest grid in OpenSim. On the other hand, ZetaWorlds offers regions with 75,000 prims for €18.99 per month, and Groovyverse offers land prices starting at $25 per month for a region that can be as large as 16 by 16 standard regions. Both grids also offer free land parcels for residents.

It is important to acknowledge that DreamGrid, even though it is not included in these statistics, has recorded a total of 3,435 unique DreamGrids since its inception.

In terms of online marketplaces, Kitely Market remains the largest collection of legal content available in OpenSim, with 20,056 product listings containing 39,784 product variations, 34,687 of which are exportable. Neverworlds Marketplace is another option for OpenSim users, offering a variety of items for sale at affordable prices.

In terms of the top 25 grids by active users, OSgrid takes the lead with 4,866 active users, followed by Wolf Territories Grid with 3,312 active users and DigiWorlds with 2,062 active users. Other notable grids include Alternate Metaverse, GBG World, Darkheart’s Playground, and Neverworld.

OpenSim Fest, a two-week event that includes art exhibitions, merchant expos, music, and presentations, will be taking place in September. Additionally, Hosting4Opensim.com has waived all grid hosting setup fees and support fees, making it an attractive option for OpenSim grids.

Overall, OpenSim continues to grow in popularity, with more grids and users joining the community. The potential for creativity, social interaction, and virtual experiences is immense, making OpenSim a platform of choice for many individuals and organizations.
