Ogerpon Dominates a Major Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Tournament, Leaving No Chance for Competitors

Unbelievable Results at Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Peoria Regionals: A New Champion Emerges

This weekend, Pokémon trainers from all over gathered at the first official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet regional tournament with the highly anticipated Regulation E ruleset. The event showcased exciting battles and surprising victories, but one Pokémon stole the show and made a huge impact on the meta.

    Ogerpon Takes Center Stage

All eyes were on the legendary Ogerpon as she made her official VGC debut in Peoria. Alongside other DLC Pokémon like Bloodmoon Ursaluna and Sinistcha, Ogerpon proved to be a formidable force. But it was her Hearthflame and Wellspring forms that truly stood out during the tournament.

Looking at the top 12 Pokémon used in the tournament, Ogerpon’s Hearthflame form had a staggering 34.6% usage, while the Wellspring form closely followed with 22.1% usage. Together, they accounted for a total of 56.7% usage, surpassing even the dominant Paradox threats of Flutter Mane and Iron Hands. Notably, this statistic doesn’t even include Ogerpon’s Teal or Cornerstone forms.

In fact, Ogerpon’s dominance was so remarkable that every single player in the top eight had either the Hearthflame or Wellspring form on their team. This speaks volumes about Ogerpon’s power, move set, and Tera ability, making her an essential member of any competitive lineup.

A Clash of Titans in the Finals

The finals featured an intense battle between James Baek’s Wellspring Ogerpon and Luka Trejgut’s Hearthflame Ogerpon. Both forms proved to be incredibly strong, with Hearthflame being the more popular choice overall and Wellspring finding more success on the second day of the tournament. In the end, it was Baek’s Wellspring Ogerpon that emerged victorious, with weather conditions playing a significant role in the outcome.

Even without weather conditions, Ogerpon poses a significant threat. However, when paired with Pokémon like Tornadus, which can control the weather, the Wellspring and Hearthflame forms become even more devastating. Baek’s Wellspring Ogerpon showcased this perfectly, executing a one-hit knockout on Trejgut’s Flutter Mane in the rain during the thrilling finals match.

Rain and Sun Teams Expected to Rise

After witnessing the remarkable performance of Wellspring and Hearthflame Ogerpon, it is highly likely that rain and sun teams will make a resurgence. With an Ogerpon benefitting greatly from the sun, paired with Pokémon such as Flutter Mane, Chi-Yu, and Heatran, which excel in sunny conditions, these teams have immense potential in the current meta. Players will need to adapt and prepare for the changing dynamics brought about by these powerful teams.
