OpenSim’s Land Area Reaches Record High as Grids Prepare for the Holiday Season – Hypergrid Business

OpenSim Land Area Reaches New All-Time High

The land area in OpenSim has reached a new record high of 131,244 standard regions, marking the fourth consecutive month that this target has been achieved. The steady growth in land area indicates the growing popularity and usage of OpenSim grids.

However, despite the active season, OpenSim active users have decreased by 2,675 this month. This decline can be attributed to downtime experienced on several grids. It’s important to note that the number of active users may fluctuate due to various factors such as technical issues or temporary disruptions.

Notably, some major grids did not provide statistics this month, including Exolife, which had 932 active users in the previous month, and One Life and Sin Grid, which were offline during the data collection period. Additionally, Soul Grid, previously reporting over 1,100 actives, is no longer providing statistics.

Other grids that reported a significant drop in active users include AviWorlds, Jungle Friends Grid, and Piggy Bank Grid World. Piggy Bank Grid World observed a decrease of more than 800 active users compared to the previous month.

Currently, there are 2,634 OpenSim grids being tracked, with 413 active grids and 284 grids publishing their statistics. However, many grids do not have publicly accessible stats pages. Grid administrators are encouraged to email david@hypergridbusiness.com or maria@hypergridbusiness.com to include their grid in the monthly report for increased visibility.

Furthermore, the top three grids in terms of land area are OSgrid, Wolf Territories Grid, and Kitely. OSgrid also holds the title for the fastest-growing grid, adding 976 new regions this month. This growth can be attributed to OSgrid’s unlimited free regions for residents who run them on their home computers.

It’s worth noting that the statistics do not include grids running on DreamGrid, a distribution of OpenSim, as these grids are typically private and may not publicly report their numbers. However, DreamGrid has recorded 3,435 unique DreamGrids launched since its inception.

In terms of online marketplaces, Kitely Market remains the largest collection of legal content in OpenSim with over 20,000 product listings and 40,000 product variations. The marketplace has delivered orders to 601 OpenSim grids.

Overall, OpenSim continues to thrive as a free and accessible virtual world platform, with a wide range of grids catering to various interests and needs. The consistent growth in land area and the presence of vibrant online marketplaces contribute to the overall development and success of the OpenSim community.
